Public dashboard access lets an admin share a read-only dashboard with people who do not have a Metoro account. Each public dashboard has its own URL and password.
Anyone with the public dashboard password can view the dashboard and run the approved dashboard queries. Review every approved query before sharing the link.

Setting up public access

  1. Open the dashboard in Metoro.
  2. Open Dashboard Settings.
  3. In Public Access, switch sharing to Enabled.
  4. Set the public URL slug.
  5. Set a password.
  6. Click Save Public Access.
  7. Copy the generated public URL.
Only organization admins can manage public dashboard access. The slug can contain letters, numbers, dots, underscores, and dashes. If a dashboard is already public, you can leave the password field blank to keep the current password.

Public Queries

Public dashboards do not allow visitors to run arbitrary queries. Metoro extracts the query-backed widgets on the dashboard and lists them under Public Queries. Approve only the queries that should be available to people with the public dashboard password. Approved queries run exactly as they are shown in the settings dialog, so make sure filters are scoped appropriately to avoid data leaks. When you add or change query-backed widgets:
  • Save the dashboard first.
  • Open Public Access or use the approval prompt that appears after saving.
  • Review the pending queries.
  • Select the queries that should be public.
  • Click Save Query Approval.
You can unapprove a query by clearing its checkbox and saving query approval. If a previously approved widget is removed from the dashboard, its query appears as removed in the Public Queries list until query approval is saved.

Visitor experience

Visitors open the public URL and enter the password. After they are authenticated, they can view the read-only dashboard and use viewer controls such as the time range selector, auto-refresh, and pause. Public dashboard visitors cannot:
  • Edit dashboards or widgets.
  • Use chart action menus.
  • Export logs.
  • Run queries that are not explicitly approved for the public dashboard.

Revoking access

To stop sharing a dashboard, open Public Access, switch sharing to Disabled, and click Save Public Access. To keep sharing but rotate access, set a new password and save public access again. Changing the password or disabling sharing invalidates existing public dashboard sessions. Public dashboard sessions also expire automatically after one hour.
